So What is Pinging? "Ping is a XML-RPC-based push mechanism by which a weblog notifies a server that its content has been updated. An XML-RPC signal is sent to one or more "ping servers," which can then generate a list of blogs that have new material. Many blog authoring tools automatically ping one or more servers each time the blogger creates a new post or updates an old one." source (Wikipedia)
To put it into simple English, it means a service to update different search engines that your blog has been updated and allows your post to be generated into the search engines directory. The bigger your ping list the higher the chances of receiving traffic from those sources.

If I am not wrong then we have this file already with Wordpress. I can see this file in my file structure. I think XML Sitemap Plugins do the same thing. I have just installed such plugin for my wordpress blogs a few days ago.

Pinging lets me index my new blogs within 24 hours, however there are a lot of ping abusers which ping every few seconds which gets really annoying.
