In Singapore, advertisements are part of a prestigious award which viewers are given a choice to vote on the best advertisements through the year. In 2006 Visa won gold with their 'Visa Platinum ad campaign' and in 2007 M1 which is a handphone service in Singapore is the favourite to win the award with their 'Mumbai IDD ad campaign'.
Other than the similarity of using an Indian theme, both advertisements had a final statement which is to sell their brand logo and services through media power and make you remember who they are and what services they provide to their customers. The advertisement video are below for your viewing.
Visa Richard Gere & Fortunate Birds
Visa Commercials focus on how you are able to use their cards anywhere and everywhere. Even in urban cities over at India, a Visa card is accepted by anyone and a card that can help you settle everything without any hassle, now wouldn't you want a Visa yourself?
M1 Mumbai India
This was a humorous advertisement telling you how cheap M1 is offering for their International Direct Dialing(IDD) calls and calling Mumbai direct using their services, you will be able to order authentic Indian cuisine, but too bad they don't deliver country to country and i must say it's tactics paid off, making me laugh and remembering M1 for a number of months.
Word of Mouth Marketing(WMM) Works!
The ads were an instead hit over in Singapore and turned viral, apparently many of my friends will start talking about the latest M1 Mumbai advertisement and how creative the approach of this ad was. In fact M1's affiliaters are the viewers who will start using their brand name M1 to tell their friend how interesting that advertisement was. Word of mouth marketing is a power media which uses a normal conversation to strike an opportunity to sell and you will rarely notice that a reminder of the ads may trigger a firesales and that is how you brand your logo and your services.
Did you recently help a brand sell their products using word of mouth marketing? Have you ever self promoted an item and it turned out your friend agrees with what you said?
Stacy: Hi Vince, Have you had your breakfast?
Vince: No, Where do you recommend to have breakfast?
Stacy: My friend was telling me Macdonald's had a new promotion breakfast set which only cost $4.00!
Vince: Is that so? That sounds like a pretty cool breakfast worth trying, alright we will have that today, let's go down to Macdonald!
If that is a success then why not experiment selling your products to your friends by introducing the features and benefits the service can provide them with. Don't under estimate the power of using your mouth to sell a product!
