How My Blog Suffered a Drop from 53,490 To 111,722 In Alexa Ranking

I have to admit that the recent drop in my Alexa ranking was partially my own fault, i have not been doing religious posting daily and this could be a factor which Alexa considered and somehow i removed my Alexa Widget which could be the cause of the big downfall.

Andy Beard had an interesting post about the recent Alexa Rating Changes attributing to many blogs who have seen a slight move downwards in the month of March 2008. I am not sure why i am receiving a drop of over 50,000 in ranks but i am sure i have not been following the rules that i have set to make your Alexa Ranking Soar high in the recent months!

alexa-traffic-stats-ranking

alexa-traffic-from-countries
I am really going to add back my Alexa Widget and see whether i will climb back to be below the 100,000 ranking mark. The traffic i received lately is still on an average as compared to the last 3 months. At the most i see the drop to be at 80,000 and not less than that, we will see how it goes.

One of the way that many have been using is to copy this Alexa Booster into their HTML and increase their Alexa Ranking, Have you done it? Copy and Paste the below Alexa Booster code into notepad file and save as something.html. So here is the Alexa Booster Code :

</head><body onload="reload();">

I would take this as a mini experiment and a lesson learnt. Let's see my results end of April if i am still dropping to 150,000 or not! If that is the case, something is really wrong with my traffic read by Alexa!

Kiss PageRank Goodbye and Welcome the New Algorithm?

Has Google Pagerank lost it's presence in Google Centre? Rumors are spreading fast like fire that Google will very soon remove Pagerank for good and a new algorithm will be born. While Matt Cutts and Digitalpoint webmasters are not releasing any news to confirm such reports.

We all should know by now Google Pagerank plays a very important part in how our website and blog are going to get ranked. Pagerank is in fact the technology that gave Google a way to improve the accuracy and validity of a search response to a user query efficiently, so what's the new algorithm all about, is it true that Google is going to adopt a new way to get us ranked?
google pagerank not updating

The Man Google Employed was a Student with a brillant work
I don't like to keep you in suspend for too long, you might have heard that a university student was employed and his works which happens to be the rumored new algorithm were snatched over by Google to work on.

ORI ALLON google
Ori Allon
is the 26-year-old PhD student behind the Orion search engine that's earning praise from Bill Gates among others for its ability to return pages on not just the keyword entered in, but also pages with content that is strongly related to the keyword.
source searchviews

The new Orion Search Engine might just be what Google had prepared to show us soon but wait till you hear how long this project will take around from the day he was recruited in Google, he will undergo a 18 months time frame to complete this project.

Even if we were hoping this would be the future of pagerank, would it be possible Larry Page and the rest of the gang give us another PR update cause 18 months seems to be a long long wait for the new system to kick in.

Could this project be the death of Pagerank? I will leave it to the crowd to decide, will Pagerank give us hope even after 5 months of wait, what's your thought about this?

Web 2.0 Changed Even How We Look at Supermarkets

Since today is Monday, let's watch a little video to show how even supermarkets are changing into 2.0. Though i must say this video at first sight seems like it was made in the 80s with the very weird music choice and darn those casts look like pornstars speaking with a very European accent, no offence!

On one hand i found this video funny and the person who made this must have been a web 2.0 savvy person or someone crazy about web 2.0. I like the pandora style part the most, turning small things into something big and will someone comment on this video? Enjoy yourself with the video!

Social Network likes Myspace soon to be juicy targets for computer hackers

Social networking Web sites such as MySpace.com are increasingly juicy targets for computer hackers, who are demonstrating a pair of vulnerabilities they claim expose sensitive personal information and could be exploited by online criminals.

The Flaws were demonstrated in the recent Black hats and Defcon hacker conferences which had drew in thousands of people to Las Vegas for five days of training and demonstrations of the latest exploits.

What are the chances of your Myspace account been hacked by a hacker nowadays? I would say 90% possible and just give them hours which is what they require at their home station and your account will be theirs. Infiltrating password-protected social networking sites has been an increasingly fruitful area of study for hobbyists and professional computer security researchers.
patrick karlsson at the recent defcon hacker conferences
One hacker, Rick Deacon, a 21-year-old network administrator from Beachwood, Ohio, says he's discovered a so-called "zero-day" flaw — or a problem that hasn't been patched yet — in MySpace that allows intruders to commandeer personal Web pages and possibly inject malicious code and so far, it only affects older versions of the Firefox Web browser and does not affect Internet Explorer, he said.

Though he discovered requires that a user click on a link that leads to a Web page where the computer's "cookie" information is stolen. Deacon said he discovered the problem several months ago along with several other researchers and alerted MySpace, but the company didn't fix the problem.

So what was myspace thinking at that moment of time, a hacker telling that your program has a flaw and yet you are not solving them, though Myspace spokeswoman said that "it's our responsibility to have the most responsive, solely dedicated 24-7 safety and security team, and we do."

Wikipedia searching in the near future

Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales announced on Friday that he will be building a community developed search service to close off rival search engines such as Google or Yahoo and also in hand, wales also acquired the Grub distributed indexing system from LookSmart and is preparing to distribute Grub's code under an open-source license. Wikia plans to use Grub for its user-driven search engine, which is still under development.

Mr Wales said that his open-source search engine, which will let users influence the ranking of search results, should be released by the end of the year. The engine will also allow user computers to help crawl the hundreds of millions of pages on the web, indexing the content of each.

Wales though not throwing rumors that this will be the next "google killer",
According to Eric Auchard, he stipulated that the change would take place “[i]f we can get good quality search results,” and went on to add, “I could be wrong about this, but it seems like a likely outcome.”

I foresee Mr Wales as the only person who could compete with Google and will Grub be your next search engine? Continue Reading Article..

Google beats Microsoft to acquire Doubleclick for 3.1 Billion in cash

Google announced that they have agreed to acquired DoubleClick for $3.1 billion in cash.Microsoft was reportedly in a bidding war with Google for the company. Google gets access to DoubleClick’s advertising software and, perhaps more importantly, their customers and network. DoubleClick was founded in 1996. DoubleClick was taken private in 2005 by Hellman & Friedman and JMI Equity for $1.1 billion.New York Times is reporting that DoubleClicks revenues are about $300 million/year.

A sudden increase of around $1 billion in the rumored valuation price is in part due to Google’s desire to keep Microsoft away from making in roads into anything Search by means of acquisitions. This also tells us that the Youtube acquisition was not a one off event and that Google is not interested in sitting on the pile of cash it has accumulated, but would rather put it to good use.

Going with Microsoft would have resulted in a potential lose of AOL. So may be they used Microsoft to pump their valuation and then let Google do the rest. Poor Microsoft, the once powerful company, that used to erode market share and valuations of others is now being used to increase just that. May be Microsoft is dead-(by paul graham) already! European Union data-privacy officials probing Google

Independent European union is currently investigating on Google.Inc's Internet search engine abides by European privacy rules, which tend to be stricter than those in the United States.

Pietro Petrucci(EU spokesman) said the 28 member panel advises the european commission and EU governments on data protection issues, expects Google to address concerns about the company's practice of storing and retaining user information for up to two years.

Peter Fleischer(Google's global privacy counsel), said the company was doing a lot to protect personal data gathered from users on its search engine.

"We believe it's an important part of our commitment to respect user privacy while balancing a number of important factors, such as maintaining security and preventing fraud and abuse," Fleischer said. He added that Google was "committed to engaging in a constructive dialogue."

Google said it would answer the EU's privacy concerns before the panel's next meeting at the end of June.[Read from Associated Press Writer for more...] Continue Reading Article..

DMOZ and Google working together as one

One of these resources is DMOZ. This is known as The Open Directory Project (ODP). This huge directory is powered and expanded by humans. It seems unbelievable that a directory of this size and importance must still be indexed and managed manually but it is.

What exactly is the DMOZ project? It is actually a huge directory, with a large database of indexed documents and websites. Many directories and search engines including Google use its listings database. Netscape handles all the decisions about content, use and operation for DMOZ.

Where does Google come into this picture?

Google gathers data from many sources including directories like DMOZ. Because of its sheer size DMOZ database is a very valuable resource for Google. Because they do everything manually this directory can provide the most reliable data to Google. This will improve their search engine.

More information for the search engine: In fact another good reason for Google to rely on DMOZ is that all data is sifted and indexed manually and will provide information that the automated Googlebots have missed. There is just so much that automated robots can achieve. With this extra information Google can enhance its search engine.

Plus DMOZ is in 175 different languages. This means that Google’s multilingual search engines all over the world can also benefit from the DMOZ database.

DMOZ is accurate: how do they ensure this?

They are very strict with their editors, applying all sorts of rules and regulations for them to follow. This is perfect for Google as they themselves have strict guidelines for the sites and data they have on their search engine.

Submitting to DMOZ: it is free but almost impossible to get in now. Because it is done manually DMOZ is very far behind in submissions. It can often take years to get in. Of course if you do manage to get in your site will be listed automatically in many directories and search engines.

Here comes “wiki” a new player has entered the field and is finding its way into Google’s elite circle. The free encyclopedia Wikipedia, it holds the top positions on many categories on the Google search engine. This is a strong indication that they could be usurping DMOZ place and relationship with Google. The Wiki is also written and handled manually making it a valuable source of information for Google.

Despite the changes that might be in the air for DMOZ it is still a good directory to get into.

Submission is free and if you get in the advantages are quite far reaching. Your website will be included in other directories. More information for your site will be in Google’s database. This will in turn give your site a chance at a better position in Google itself.

From these points you will see that DMOZ is an important factor in the Google machine. This should be taken into consideration when you are trying to raise your Page Rank and get a better position in Google.

Elementeo’s 13-year-old CEO, highlight of TiECON

TiECON 2007, the big technology conference in Santa Clara, Calif., kicked off yesterday.

The buzz on the expo floor was about Silicon Valley gaming startup Elementeo and its precocious 13-year old founder and chief executive, Anshul Samar. “We inject fun into education,” the fast talking entrepreneur confidently proclaimed, touting his new fantasy role playing board game which he believes will change the way kids learn chemistry.

The conference featured keynote presentations from the likes of Marc Benioff (Salesforce.com), Vinod Khosla (Khosla Ventures) and Tim O’Reilly (Web 2.0 thinker), but the young Samar better represented the theme of this year’s conference: “The New Face of Entrepreneurship.”

VentureBeat interviewed the diminutive executive at Elementeo’s TiECON booth. Like other charismatic Silicon Valley CEOs – think Steve Jobs, Larry Ellison or Marc Benioff – Mr. Samar exudes confidence, vision and a passion to change the world. He’s more articulate than many CEOs four times his age.

Click here to see VentureBeat’s video of Mr. Samar delivering his elevator pitch.

Samar argues that textbooks are boring and kids would rather spend their time battling enemies, blowing things up with bombs, and yes, even giving their opponents lead poisoning. So he created a fantasy role playing game that combines the rapturous teenage joys of competition and carnage with the exciting properties of the periodic table of chemical elements.

Here’s how the game works: You command an army of chemical elements, compounds and catalysts — represented within a 66-card deck (the fire and brimstone card at left is for “Sulfur,” for example). Your opponent has his own deck with the same number of cards. Your goal is to battle your competitor and reduce his IQ down to zero. Pit your oxygen card against your opponent’s iron card, for example, and you learn that you create rust. Score one for oxygen. Kind of like rock-paper-scissors, but with chemicals, dice and 66 impressively illustrated cards featuring monster-themed caricatures of chemicals.

Samar would kick my butt in this game. At least I’d probably learn more about chemistry in an hour of game play than I learned in my high school chemistry class a couple decades ago.

Like all good Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, Samar was taking orders at the show even though he won’t start shipping product until he either receives his first 2,500 orders, or he closes a decent round of funding, whichever comes first. As of Saturday, he had already booked 450 pre-orders.

Elementeo’s initial seed funding, which was used to design prototypes, came in the form of a $500 grant from the California Association for the Gifted.

Now Samar says that if he can get $100,000 in funding, it will help him achieve his goal of $1 million in first year revenues by the time he graduates eighth grade in June 2008 (Unlike most Silicon Valley companies, Mr. Samar’s fiscal year ends at the start of summer vacation).

So what happens once the company secures funding? Will Mr. Samar and his team follow in the footsteps of Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg who famously dropped out of school (in this case, Lawson Middle School in Cupertino) to pursue their ventures full time?

“We’ll still be in school, but we’ll be richer,” joked Mr. Samar’s 13-year-old co-founder Daniel Tan, his big smile exposing a mouthful of braces.

Samar’s sister, who at age 11 serves as the company’s vice president of sales, jokes that after they’re rich, they can hire someone to do their homework. “Just kidding,” she emphasizes.

The company is considering an online version of the game, as well has extending the brand to include games for biology, math, and other school subjects they’ve identified that have “boring textbooks.”

Did you miss out on Google, Yahoo, MySpace and now YouTube on how you can make a profit?

Did you miss out on Google, Yahoo,
MySpace and now YouTube?
You Tube just sold for $1.65 billion dollars!
How much of that check was yours?

At a early point in time, each of these companies
had a small window of opportunity for anyone to
cash in on some of the greatest financial opportunities
ever, but most of us, if not all, found out a little too late.

The Internet is about to go through a dramatic change and a
MAJOR OPPORTUNITY awaits those who are keen enough to see it.

You probably already know that Internet sites are making
millions of dollars in revenue, some even billions. Wouldn't it
be great if you and I could OWN THE INTERNET and
make money just like Google, YouTube and MySpace?

Another name is about to be added to this list and
fortunately for you and me, it's not too late.

Welcome to AGLOCO!

AGLOCO (A GLObal COmmunity) was introduced in
late November of 2006 and is now creating
opportunities
that you and I have only dreamed of.

AGLOCO members have the opportunity to make money
and own shares in the company by doing the same thing
you are
doing right now: SURFING THE INTERNET!

So What Is The Opportunity?
The answer is really simple.

Advertisers, search providers, and online retailers are
paying billions to reach you while you surf. How much
of that money are you getting? If you're like me it's $0.00.

Do you realize how valuable you are? AGLOCO is here
to show you that you deserve a piece of the action
and how to get it.

AGLOCO gets paid by companies to reach its members
through the Viewbar™. AGLOCO then gives that money
right back to us.

But it gets even better...

Make More Money and Own The Internet!
AGLOCO is building A GLObal COmmunity of users and
offers great rewards to those who are helping to build it.
The bigger the community, the more money AGLOCO
makes for its Members. The more members your refer,
the more money you make.

Not only will you earn money, you will also earn shares in a
company that will revolutionize the way companies advertise.
Simply sign up, refer your friends, download the free Viewbar™
software and surf the Internet as you normally would.

What's The Viewbar?
The Viewbar™ is a small toolbar that rests on the bottom
of your screen or browser window while you surf the Internet.
The Viewbar™ software is what enables AGLOCO to collect the
money you are earning while browsing the Internet.
Here is a screenshot of what the Viewbar will look like on your
desktop. It's the blue bar at the bottom of the screen:

Tell Me More About Referrals
Most of us spend our lives giving free referrals on products,
restaurants, stores and even websites, and never earn one penny.
The most we ever get in return is a thank you from our friends
while companies reap all the profits. Imagine if you received shares
of Pepsi or Coca Cola every time you told someone which you
preferred. Your investment portfolio would be staggering.
When you refer AGLOCO, you increase the money
you make and the shares you earn.

How Do I Refer People to AGLOCO?
AGLOConnect, the website you are currently visiting, makes
this as easy as typing an email address and clicking a button.
It's that fast and easy. In fact, it's how you probably got to this page.
Wouldn't you want to send a simple email to others and alert them
to this great opportunity as well? I did and that's why I shared it with you.

There are many other simple ways that members on AGLOConnect
are willing to share. Why? Because the bigger the community,
the better is is for every member. Sounds like a perfect strategy,
because it is.

Like I said at the beginning, I invited you to view this opportunity
because I believe you will see the incredible opportunity
that I have found.

How Much Does It Cost?
There is no cost involved at all. Membership to AGLOCO and

Viral Traffic Starts from Linking to Directories

Have you started to link your website to all of the available directories in the net?
If you have not, here i am telling you it is important to have your website listed in directories.

Do not forget to post your web site to all the Internet directories related to your subject. These links are better than links exchanges as usually, directories do not require a link back to their site. These one-way links have a very good value for search engines.
Also submit it to DMOZ directory. It will probably take a few months to get your sited indexed, but the backlinks you will get there are worth gold.

Once your site has been accepted into the Open Directory, it may take anywhere from 2 weeks to several months for your site to be listed on partner sites which use the Open Directory data, such as AOL Search, AltaVista, HotBot, Google, Lycos, Netscape Search, etc. We make updates of the data available weekly, but each partner has their own update schedule.

So get your website in DMOZ directory now for FREE!

If you are thinking of submitting your website to the search engine and want it first and quick, you can try this product available called Add-URL-Net.
